Bill Gibson (President of Northwest Music and Recording) has spent the last 30 years writing, recording, producing and teaching music and has become well-known for his production, performance and teaching skills. As an instructor at Green River College in Auburn, WA, holding various degrees in composition, arranging, education and recording, he developed a practical and accessible teaching style which that the bssis for what was to come.
In the early '80s Bill began teaching recording classes, operating out of one of the pioneer studios in the Seattle area: Holden, Hamilton & Roberts Recording Studios. This birthed a creative and practical approach to instruction in the audio industry. As classes increased in size and frequency, Bill's connection with the students in the classroom was obvious.
From his interactions with a continuous flow of motivated and inspired student came an arsenal of practical explanations of what happens in the recording process. In 1990 Bill teamed up with a long time friend Bob Sluys, who had video equipment and production experience, to produce one of the original instructional videos on the topic of audio recording: Killer Demos - Hot Tips and Cool Secrets for the Home Multitrack User. This immediately caught the attention of several executives in the publishing industry.
To make a long story short, in 1996 Bill ended up building a relationship with MixBooks, the premier publisher in the recording industry. Through a publishing pathway that included MixBooks, ArtistPro Media, and Thomson publishing, Bill has become part of the industry leading and highly-respected Hal Leonard Publishing family as an author and satellite publisher.
Bill is also an online faculty member for Berklee College of Music in Boston, a producer/engineer, a board member and chairman of the P&E Committee for The Recording Academy, and the liaison between the professional audio community and The Art Institute odf Seattle. After more than 30 books and other instructional media about recording and live sound, and after helping thousands of aspiring recordists to elevate their skills to the next level, Bill continues to develop new and fresh ways to help people follow their dreams in recording.
